Golf in Argyll

There is a large number and diversity of courses within easy reach of the Grey Gull Inn. The closest is Lochgilphead which is 2 miles, then Tarbert 12 miles and Inveraray 26 miles. Carradale is on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula. Dunaverty is about 70 miles and both Machrihanish and the Machrihanish Dunes are approximately 55 – 60 miles away just outside Campbeltown and near the southern tip of Kintyre.

Lochgilphead Golf Course (10 minutes)
Lochgilphead golf courseA picturesque 9 hole course set in the hills of Mid Argyll. The course offers a variety of challenges and as such is an excellent test of golf. If you play during the week then no booking is required although the number of tee times available at the weekend is varied. Clubhouse facilities include changing rooms and refreshments during the week, with a licensed bar open at the weekends.

Machrihanish Golf Course (1 Hour and 15 minutes)

Dunaverty Golf Course (1 Hour and 20 minutes)
Dunaverty Golf CourseThe course is a fine Par 66 18 hole natural links extending to 4,799 yards. High and low handicappers alike will enjoy its testing layout, the springy turf on the undulating fairways and arguably one of the finest set of greens in Scotland.

Tarbert Golf Course (30 minutes)
Tarbert is a short yet stunning moor land nine hole course, with well-maintained undulating fairways and even better greens. Tarbert is particularly picturesque in parts with a number of holes serving up views of the local countryside, including West Loch Tarbert. Although relatively short in length, this course will require you to be reasonably straight from the tee. Indeed, it is a great challenge for the novice as it is the more seasoned player. Tarbert is hilly in parts while being an enjoyable little amble, even if your game isn’t up to the standard of the course’s panorama.

Carradale Golf Course (45 minutes)
A gem of a course and the views of the western profile of Arran unfold as soon as you step on the first tee. The Carradale Bay and hills of Kintyre’s central spine complete an amazing panorama from the ninth green. The course is characterised by tiny, hard-to-hit greens and rolling terrain and has been described as the most sporting nine-hole course in Scotland.

Inveraray Golf Course (30 minutes)
Beautiful, but challenging, nine hole course on the outskirts of Inveraray, this par 70 course over 5598 yards was opened in 1993 by the late 12th Duke of Argyll, it is a testing course with spectacular views of Loch Fyne and the surrounding countryside.
